Hi, and welcome. My name is Steve Greenberg. David Park and I founded Ciabe around the end of 2007.
What does our name mean? Well, initially it was initially suposed to stand for “Community In A Box” … uhh… “Enterprises”? We never did come up with anything good for the “e”. We’ve changed our product a bit since founding, and that name doesn’t really fit as well as it once did. It’s paid for, though, so being a frugal startup we stuck with it.
Nowadays, we tell people that it’s Swahili for “five letter domain name that we could afford”. This gets a laugh which is, I suppose, good enough.
Regardless of that silliness, here we are. Pleased to meet you. Over the course of the next few posts, I’ll discuss what the Ciabe platform is, why you should care, and what we’re building on top of it.
